Missing you now
Customers would always ask us what our curation strategy was. There was no strategy. The pantry and fridges were stocked with items that made up our dream grocery. Since we’ve closed in July, these are some of the items that we’re the most sad about not having it readily available now…. in life.
Seolim Fermented Tuna Sauce
Lot of tuna sauce out there, but this one reigns supreme. Deep, complex and versatile — this is a secret weapon.
Miwa Yamakatsu somen noodles
These noodles distributed by The Japanese Pantry are creme de la creme. On their website they describe it as “most delicate, bright, and delicious somen noodles we have tasted.” We wholeheartedly agree.
Fritz Coffee
I would nearly cry opening the EMS box shipment that arrived every Thursday seeing the red, brown, and yellow bags of coffee with the iconic seal on it. The smell of the beans would permeate in the shop for days. Making coffee at home with these beans always made me so happy.
Meiji Tofu Supreme
People were always wary of the price of this tofu, but we converted a lot of folks into believers once they tried the Meiji product. People would call in to reserve or come early to hoard them.
Hana Makgeolli
Literally the only makgeolli in the US that matches the luscious natural brews of the homeland. Being one of the first shops in California to carry the product, we got to see the evolving product; each batch of Hana Makgeolli just got better and better.
Tart Vinegar
Tart Vinegar was like our beanie baby. We couldn’t keep it on our shelves. We stashed away a few bottles since they’re gonna be worth thousands one day hehe. Hi Chris! <3
Koda Rice
Robin was always so generous to us — she would go out of her way to make sure we were always fully stocked with her primo rice. We’d stuff the bundles and bags of rice in every nook and cranny of the store and it would make us so happy knowing we had a 6 month runway of her rice.
“I talk to you but it’s not the same as touchin’ you and every time you whispher my name, I want to run to you…we’ll be together, it won’t be long, it won’t be long…”
